our mission Provide support for athletic trainers working in public safety, e ducate public safety entities about the benefits of athletic trainers engaged in their workplace and to p romote the highest level of healthcare for first responders. who we are We are committed to providing education, research, and resources to our members to help advance the profession in this unique setting. We believe that the physical, mental and emotional health of our public safety personnel is of vital importance, which is why we rely on evidence-based practices to ensure optimal health and performance outcomes for our first responders. Why an Athletic Trainer? Athletic trainers (ATs) provide medical services to all types of patients, not just athletes. They can be found in a variety of settings, relieving outpatient rehab professions while providing an unparalleled continuum of care for their patients. Though they are commonly compared to Physical Therapists, athletic trainers tend to work closely with their patients, seeing them frequently, if not daily. This allows them to build rapport and trust, enhance their understanding of the profession’s demands, and tailor their rehabilitation and prevention goals to the chosen demographic. Athletic trainers come highly educated, typically earning a Bachelor's or Master's of Science Degree. They are multi-skilled healthcare professionals who may also choose to specialize in other branches of care (Orthopedics, Strength and Conditioning, etc.). ATs can render care under the direction of a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state's practice acts. Athletic trainers aim to improve functional outcomes and specialize in patient education to prevent injury and re-injury. Athletic Trainers Help Enhance Health and Wellness While Benefitting Departments By applying onsite clinical evaluations, primary care, injury rehabilitation, functional and physical performance testing, athletic trainers have been shown to help departments: Reduce agency medical costs for rehabilitation and functional care. Reduce lost work-hours by returning employee back to work sooner and in better overall physical condition. Improve employee morale with an accessible medical healthcare provider. Provide case management for all injured employees.
